Justice League Snyder Cup

The Snyder Cupunofficial name of the film better known as Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguecontinues to be talked about nearly a year and a half after his arrival.

The film represents the complete montage edited by Zack Snyder with all original material from Justice League of 2017. As we know, Snyder was the director in charge of directing the blockbuster, but he had to abandon the direction in favor of Joss Whedon after the family tragedy that struck him.

The version of the film that arrived in theaters in 2017 was a bitter disappointment, with fans immediately beginning to demand the release of what became known as Snyder Cup, viewing the film as it was originally conceived by Snyder. After an intense online fan campaign, Warner Bros. accepted the montage of the alternative version of the filmwhich arrived on HBO Max and Sky on March 18, 2021. Effective today however, the decision to release Zack Snyder’s Justice League seems to be the subject of recriminations on the part of certain executives of the major.

According to a recent report by Varietythe leaders would believe that the exit of the Snyder Cup – with hindsight – have encouraged fans to object decisions of Warner Bros. whenever a studio decision does not meet with their full approval. Which, in the case of such a large and varied fandom, is next to impossible.

The report goes on to explain how the major’s original intentions were to appease fans by releasing the Snyder Cupa work today considered not canonicalthen go back to work on DC Extended Universe. The audience and critical acclaim received by the film’s new edit would instead have prompted the fandom to embark on a new online campaign called #RestoreTheSnyderversein order to restore the scenario carried by the original vision of the director, which we find in the mammoth film which lasts more than four hours.

More specifically, in the report of Variety we can read:

Privately, some studio insiders said Zack Snyder’s Justice League shouldn’t have been made. Rather than ending the hard-hitting #ReleasetheSnyderCut online campaign, the 4-hour HBO Max film only emboldened and lifted the spirits of vocal “Snyderverse” supporters who opposed Warner’s leadership in general and from DC in particular.“.
