From September 15 in Italian theaters with Officine UBU nest of vipers (Beasts Clawing at Straws), the successful South Korean thriller inspired by the pulp atmospheres of Tarantino and the black atmospheres of the Coen brothers. The Kim Yong-Hoon-directed film is based on the novel of the same name by Japanese writer Keisuke Sone.

In “Vipers’ Nest”, the fates of four characters on the fringes of society intertwine in unpredictable ways when a lowly janitor finds a bag full of cash abandoned in a locker. The unexpected treasure soon becomes a double-edged sword, hiding behind it a web of stories of ruthless criminals and miserable existences. Between murders, betrayals, strokes of luck and bad luck, the mocking destinies of the four protagonists intersect, plunging them into ever deeper troubles, in a desperate and unrestrained game.

Plot and Cast

The official plot: A lowly janitor, forced to care for his sick mother, finds a bag full of cash in a sauna cabinet where he works. He is unaware, however, that behind the bag hides a web of stories of ruthless criminals: an indebted customs officer, a ferocious loan shark, a cunning crook, a young escort with a violent husband and an illegal stalker are stalking each other in an attempt to get their hands on the silver. Between murders, betrayals, strokes of luck and misfortunes, their mocking destinies intersect, plunging them into ever deeper troubles, in a desperate and unrestrained game.

“Vipers’ Nest” boasts a choral cast in which Jeon Do-yeon, voted best actress at Cannes 2007, star Jung Woo-sung and Youn Yuh-jung, Oscar winner for Minari, stand out. Rounding out the cast are Bae Sung-Woo, Jeong Man-Sik, Shin Hyun-bin, Jung Ga-ram, and Jin Kyung.
