The little Mermaidthe long-awaited new live-action adaptation from Disney, was revealed at the last Expo D23 thanks to the first official teaser of the film.
With the release of the promo, the controversy over the appearance of Halle Bailey, who for the occasion interpreted this new iteration of the protagonist. However, the young actress doesn’t seem to give us too much weight, having said that she focused on the quality of her performance as both actress and singer:
“Well, this movie has meant so much to me since I was a little girl. I think when I approached this role, I was like, ‘I can only do my best and be proud. If I can make the little girl in me happy, then I’ll know that I did a good job and did my best.” I really gave it my all, and I hope people can take something from the movie“.
In the cast of the film, in addition to the protagonist played by Halle BaileyThey will be present Javier Bardem in the role of King Triton, Jonas Hauer King in the role of Prince Eric, e Melissa McCarthy in the role of Ursula. The voice cast will instead consist of Jacob Trambley, Awkwafina And David Diggswho will lend their voices to Flounder, Scuttle and Sebastian, respectively.
The movie was made by Rob Marshallwhile the screenplay was written by David Mage And Jane Goldman. The soundtrack was instead edited by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. In line with previous live adaptations of Disney classics, it will be a reinterpretation of the original songs flanked by new pieces written for the occasion. In this regard, in a previous interview with ComicBook.comthe director said:
“There are things I learned about working to fit songs into the story organically. It can’t just be added because you think there should be a song right now. […] And so as we work, kind of, embodying The Little Mermaid like that, we realize that Ariel only has one song in the original animated film, and so we try to have more material.“.
The little Mermaid will hit the big screen on May 24, 2023.
