Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Percy Jackson and the Olympiansthe first series based on Rick Riordan’s novels, is revealed in the first short teaser.

The short but evocative video was released during the Expo D23 from Los Angeles presented by the author himself in the company of the show’s young cast. In the short one-minute teaser, the protagonist is seen taking his first steps at Camp Half-Blood, a Demigod-only training site located on the island of Long Island.

Riordan, present on the Expo stage, remarked that the new show will be a faithful adaptation of his books. The images don’t reveal many plot details, but they do define the series tone also releasing a few clues that fans will surely notice.

The events of the show will center on 12-year-old Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), who discovers that he is none other than a demigod son of Poiseidon, god of the sea from Greek mythology. From then on, Percy finds himself involved in an adventure which begins when he is accused of having stolen Zeus’ lightning. The series aims to make justice to the original story after the mixed reception given to the two films produced by 20th Century Fox in 2010 and 2013.

The author himself announced the development of the show in 2020, and since then he has always informed the public about the status of the work. After some delay due to the pandemic, the names of the cast were revealed earlier this year, with filming beginning this summer. Production is still ongoing, so it’s likely to be a while before we get to see a full-fledged trailer, but the series already looks like a definite step up from previous adaptations.

Disney’s plans appear to be for the series to release in 2024but it still lacks an official date.
