He will fly to Australia this week.
Luke Thompson has played his last game for St Helens as NRL club Canterbury Bulldogs have confirmed the England international front rower has secured an early release from his Super League club and will join his new club next week.
Thompson had originally agreed to make the switch to Belmore in the NRL next season, but with the competition Down Under already back underway and no concrete date for the Super League resumption, the powerful front rower has had his move fast tracked and will now make the switch immediately and will join his new teammates after spending two weeks self isolating.
Bulldogs Chair Lynne Anderson was delighted to get the 25 year old early.
“We are thrilled Luke will join us this year. It’s a huge boost to our young team, and provides further experience to support our senior leadership group. We have worked really hard to get him here early, and it’s fantastic to see it come to fruition,” she told the club website.
